Shrines circle Beware the cryptic shrine - what do the shrines mean & which are hurtful?

One of the most important aspects of surviving as a rogue is to know which shrines are harmful and which are helpful. To randomly touch every shrine that you come upon is not only foolhardy but is detrimental to your character's final outcome. As a rogue, it is imperative to maintain as much mana as possible. Since the rogue doesn't achieve the same level of total mana as the sorcerer does, a player must harbour what they have and that means being wary of every shrine that they come upon.

The Shrines

an open shrineShrines and their weaker cousins, the fountains, bestow a gift that is double edged. You may reap the benefits of one if you are aware of what the shrine can do. If not, then you can pay with a loss to mana, stats, and/or weapon durability. Listed below are all of the shrines that you will find in either the labyrinths or the catacombs. Those with a star by their name are helpful to a rogue's development and should be sought out. Any that are listed without a star should not be touched, unless you like living life on the edge.

a goat shrineThe only other shrines that a rogue should be wary of are the goat shrines. These are usually found in the either the catacombs or hell, depending on the level of difficulty you are playing under. Goat shrines are unknowns in the fact that until you touch it, you never know what the shrine will do. Hence stay away from them.

Fountains & Pools

Throughout the levels you will also find fountains and pools which are helpful to either your characters growth or for playing on that level. Never pass up the opportunity to touch any of them, they can only help you out in the end.

fountain of tears

The 'Fountain of Tears' acts like an instant boost to your stats. All stats except one will go up 5 while the one remaining stat will drop by five in single game play. Multiplayer format has an increase and decrease of only 1. This can be very helpful when you are still striving to maximize your stats. Never pass up the opportunity for free points to your stats.

a murky pool

This murky pool gives you an instant infravision shield that allows you to see any enemies before they see you. It is much like the scroll except it lasts a little bit shorter than the scroll does. Definitely drink from this pool when you find it for it will only help you survive longer by giving you that edge a rogue always needs.

a rippling pool

This rippling pool refreshes your health and/or mana balls if they are down in any amount. One click will restore one mana or health point thus with multiple clicks you can restore your mana and/or health back to full strength. A rogue is always in need of some help from time to time, even if it's from an unlikely source.
